COVER LETTER Mr. Randy Sykes ISV International Director 108032-C Lemon Drive Yorba Linda, CA 92886 Dear Mr. Sykes: I have been very interested in working with International Student Volunteers (ISV) for quite some time. I am a Summer 2006 Alumnus from Australia, where I worked at Banrock Station with Joanne Day as my project leader, and then had a once-in-a-lifetime experience with Dan Hartzel and Tee Turoa, the New Zealand Program Director, as my adventure tour leaders. Because of my great experiences and the people I met, I am very interested in an internship at ISV. During my college career, I have been involved in many travel experiences. Last spring, I traveled to New Orleans, where I helped tear down and rebuild houses. This experience helped me learn to work as a team not only with people I knew, but with people I was meeting for the first time. This past summer I also traveled to Taiwan, where I taught at a Sports and English Camp for two weeks. This entailed teaching English as well as soccer to students in middle and high school. This taught me that I need to listen more intently to people, because if you do not, it is very hard to understand foreigners. It also taught me how to communicate better with people whose first language is not English. I am currently an intern at the Christian Campus House, where I am the service project leader. As a service project leader, I set up volunteer work in the community for our attendees. This has given me organizational skills which are vital to the success of any organization. I have also learned effective ways to get people involved in the community when they would not otherwise do so. Some other countries I have been to include Australia, Austria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Fiji, France, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Switzerland, Taiwan, the Bahamas, and England. Our University has a 12-week internship at the end of our General Recreation program. With this degree I have learned how to create a budget, create a new program from the beginning to ending phase, tourism hot spots and what they have to offer, as well as how to be an effective leader. Ever since my trip to Australia with ISV, I have been very excited to get the chance to work with ISV again. I believe with my vast international work experience, I would be a great benefit for your organization. I would like to meet you to further discuss the possibility of working together. I will call during the week of November 13 to discuss the possibility of an interview. In the meantime, if you have any questions for me, please feel free to contact me at (816)-838-3862. Thank you for your time.
